Where every field comes from

Each page links to its own primary source. This page describes the collection sources themselves, and the terms under which they are used.

Public announcement discussions

Shutdown, end-of-life, acquisition and pricing-change announcements are discovered through the public Hacker News search API operated by Algolia. Only the headline, date, the link the poster submitted, and public comment metadata are stored. Migration quotes come from public comments and are attributed to the commenter's public username and linked to the original comment. We do not republish full threads.

Archived repositories

Projects marked archived by their own owners are collected via the public GitHub REST API, limited to projects above a popularity threshold, because an abandoned hobby repository is not a vendor event. This is first-party evidence: the maintainer declared it themselves, with a date.

Support lifecycle dates

Version support and end-of-life dates come from endoflife.date, an open community-maintained dataset that cites vendor announcements. Every lifecycle page links to its corresponding endoflife.date product page. We are a reader of that dataset, not its author, and it deserves the credit and the traffic. If you need a date for a compliance decision, use their page or the vendor's own notice as the authority.

Attribution and reuse

Quotes remain the property of their authors and are used briefly, attributed, and linked, for the purpose of recording what was publicly said. Vendor names and trademarks belong to their owners; their use here is descriptive and implies no affiliation or endorsement. If you are a rights holder and want something removed, tell us and it will be.
